Maybank leaves a mark on global CSR day

Manila, Philippines - Maybank employees in Metro Manila joined their counterparts around the world for the global Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative by bringing joy to the children of Maharlika Village, a Muslim community in Taguig City, last Saturday, November 20, 2010.

The initiative was organized for the first time across the globe as part of the 50th Anniversary celebrations of Maybank, Malaysia's largest and leading financial services provider.

The CSR program also ran in Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei, Cambodia, Vietnam, Hongkong, Shanghai, Beijing, Bahrain, London, New York and Papua Guinea. The activities undertaken during this simultaneous event focused on five key areas of Maybank's CSR efforts, namely education, welfare, sports, environment and health & medical needs.

Led by Maybank Philippines President and CEO Amos Ong, Maybank employees prepared fun games and hosted a story-telling session for the kids. Afterwards, Maybankers handed out goodie bags filled with school supplies. The program was likewise marked by the turnover of book donations and financial support to Maharlika Elementary School.

PCEO Amos Ong said during the event, "This is a historic moment for the bank, as Maybank staff not only in the Philippines but also worldwide are carrying out their outreach program in a global initiative."

Two other groups have also been mobilized outside Metro Manila for the one-day CSR initiative. Luzon-based Maybankers gave away food and grocery packs to some 100 indigent families in San Fernando, Pamapanga, while Maybankers in the Vis-Min region visited the Padre Pio House of Children and brought toiletries, basic food items and other necessities needed by the orphanage.

In a press statement, Group President and CEO Dato' Sri Abdul Wahid Omar stated, "This one day reaffirms our commitment to be close to communities. It is also our employees' strong call to action in living up to our mission to humanize financial services across Asia. In preparation for this, Maybankers have contributed their own funds as well as organized various fund raising activities for their respective projects."

"It will be a day to remember and is especially significant as we celebrate our 50th anniversary as Malaysia's regional financial services leader. I believe our global CSR day program will create an impact and touch the lives of the community in one way or another, just as we have done over the last 50 years," he added.
