MANILA, 28th August 2014: For the first time, a Filipino grabbed the top spot at the Maybank Go Ahead. Challenge Grand Finale held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from August 11-16.
Richard A. Ocampo, 24, a BA Financial Management graduate from Adamson University bested 59 other finalists from 16 different countries who qualified for the Grand Finale of the Maybank Go Ahead. Challenge - one of Asia's most rigorous business case competitions. He was shortlisted along with two students from Bangladesh and Singapore for the Ultimate Maybank Go Ahead. Challenger title.
There were six Filipino students who were flown to Kuala Lumpur to represent Maybank Philippines, Inc. in the competition.
Mr. Ocampo was also part of Team Avengers, which was named the 2nd runner up in the Team category. Meanwhile, Team Star Wars, where John Alfred A. Mendoza, 20, a 4th year BS Business Administration and Accountancy student in UP was a part of, bagged the top spot in the Team category.
The other four representatives from the Philippines were: Winchell Well L. Wong, 21, 4th year BS Business Administration and Accountancy student in UP; Camille Patricia Y. Calma, 20, 4th year BS Business Administration student in UP; John Richmond L. Go, 20, 4th year BS Management minor in Chinese Studies and Finance student in Ateneo de Manila University; and Selynn Alexis S. Co, 20, 4th year BS Management Engineering student in ADMU.
Now on its third season, Maybank Go Ahead. Challenge's format exposed the contestants in various strategic challenges that included a business case presentation to Bank Internasional Indonesia President Director Taswin Zakaria, the creation of a corporate social responsibility program for Maybank, and selling of local products of each team members' country.
As the Ultimate Maybank Go Ahead. Challenger, Mr. Ocampo won USD 1,000 and a two week internship in Maybank New York. This is on top of the USD 20,000 his team won. Meanwhile, members of the winning team brought home USD 40,000 in cash. Both the champion team and the Ultimate Go Ahead Challenger will take part in Maybank's Global Leadership Development Program where they will get a chance to interact with Maybank's top 50 most influential leaders.
The Maybank Go Ahead. Challenge is a multi-disciplinary business talent competition open to recent graduates and final-year university students. This contest is part of Maybank's aspiration to create a talent pool of world-class future business leaders and competent financial experts for the region.
