Phishing is an act of acquiring personal or financial information fraudulently by pretending to be a legitimate entity.
How Phishing works?

Phishers often use different methods like fake email and spoofed website to gather information. Currently, these are some of the common trends on phishing:

Spear Phishing

Unlike the ordinary phishing, spear phishing is a targeted attack. Attacker usually have some of the personal information of the target to have a successful attack.

Whaling

Whaling is a type of phishing that targets the executives. The goal is to deceive someone to disclosed corporate information through social engineering, email and content spoofing.

 

How do I protect myself?
  • Be suspicious when receiving emails directing you to provide certain information (personal, corporate and financial)
  • Always check the websites’ URL to see if you are on the genuine website or not, make sure that you always see the “https://” on the first part of the address bar.
